SS&A City2City has returned in spectacular style, raising $154,292 for Albury Wodonga Health’s Allied Health team, to support Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy services, with more than 3000 participants taking to the streets in a powerful show of community spirit.
Held on Sunday 22 February 2026, the event brought together runners and walkers across the 15km, 10km and 7.5km distances, uniting people of all ages in support of local health services that care for the Border community every day.
Albury Wodonga Health CEO Bill Appleby said the event was a powerful reminder that the region is stronger together.
“We are absolutely thrilled with the success of our first SS&A City2City,” Mr Appleby said.
“Seeing the community come out in such strong numbers; young and old, seasoned runners and first timers, is a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when we come together. Every step taken and every dollar raised will make a real difference for patients and families across our region.”
Funds raised this year will support Albury Wodonga Health’s Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy services, helping provide vital equipment, services and training that support recovery, independence, mobility and wellbeing. They will also directly fund the $10,000 professional development scholarship for Allied Health staff honouring the legacy of Dr Lucie Shanahan.
From helping people recover after illness or injury, to supporting those living with disability, fall prevention programs and healthy ageing initiatives, the impact of the SS&A City2City 2026 will be felt across the region.
A strong partnership
As naming rights partner and key multi-year sponsor, SS&A Club Albury played a central role in bringing the event back to life.
SS&A Chief Executive Officer Gerard Darmody said the Club was proud to support an event that unites the community for a meaningful cause.
“We are delighted to see SS&A City2City return with such incredible energy and community support,” Mr Darmody said.
“This event embodies what our region does best – coming together to support local people and local health care. We are proud to be part of something that delivers real impact for the Border community.”
Major event sponsors World Gym, Flexout Health, Tonkin Group and Riverina Podiatry, also helped bring City2City to life, reinforcing strong local partnerships that benefit the region.
Powered by people
More than 100 volunteers supported the event across water stations, marshalling points, shuttle services, the finish-line precinct, and more.
AWH Foundation Manager and Event Co-Chair Anthea Maher acknowledged the extraordinary community effort behind the scenes, and paid tribute to fellow Co-Chair Sadie Tilleray for her leadership.
“SS&A City2City wouldn’t be possible without our incredible volunteers, sponsors and organising team. We are incredibly grateful to every individual and local business who helped make this year’s event so special,” Ms Maher said.
“It has been a privilege to co-chair this event alongside Sadie and work with such a dedicated team. Seeing our community come together in this way has been incredibly rewarding.”
Albury Councillor Kylie King, who served as event MC alongside David Kapay, praised the vibrant atmosphere created by participants, volunteers and supporters throughout the day.
“The sight of several thousand runners, walkers and talkers, bubs in prams and wheelchair bound entrants taking on the SS&A City2City was fabulous to see. The volunteers were up and about encouraging them, and friends and family were beaming with pride at the finish line. It’s clear our community has missed City2City. To the small but mighty team who brought it back, we thank you,” she said.
Live performers along the course helped keep energy high, entertaining runners and walkers as they made their way toward the finish line, where celebrations continued well beyond the race itself.
The finish-line precinct in Junction Place, Wodonga, created a festival-style atmosphere, with food stalls, market vendors, live performers and a recovery zone providing a space for participants and supporters to refuel, recover and celebrate.
SS&A City2City remains one of the region’s most celebrated community events; combining fun, fitness and philanthropy in a powerful reminder that we are stronger together.
